How You Can Relieve Neck Pain

Neck pain can be a real pain in the neck! It is why many people visit chiropractors for neck pain relief in Toronto, ON. A great deal of them work in an office and sit in front of a computer for extended periods of time. There are many ways that you can avoid neck pain.

What Can Cause Pain in Your Neck

Some of the most common causes of neck pain include:

  • Injuries
  • Sitting bent over in a hunched back
  • Stress
  • Your pillow
  • Sitting too long at your desk without getting up for breaks
  • Your computer not being properly positioned

The most common cause? Bad posture when you are sitting or standing. The better your posture, the less likely you will have neck and back pain.

Ways to Reduce or Even Avoid Neck Pain in the Future

The number one thing you can do is to be aware of your posture. This cannot be reiterated enough. Other ways to alleviate pain or to avoid having to deal with it include:

  • If you find that stress is causing you pain in the neck, try some relaxing exercises or even yoga or acupuncture. These are excellent for stress relief.
  • Using a pillow that supports your neck is a good start.
  • Use an ergonomic chair which provides and/or prevents neck and back pain.
  • Stretch and exercise your neck while sitting at your desk.
  • Put your computer screen in a position where the top of it is at your eye level.
  • Use a document holder so you are not always having to look down at your work.
  • Use a speakerphone or a head set so you do not have to hold your head to the side to keep a phone in place.
